For the first time, the commissionerate organised such a ceremony for officers who were transferred. More than 100 police staff from all police stations gathered at the BVB campus (KLE Technological University) to participate in this grand and emotional farewell.DCP (L&O) Mahaning Nandaganvi, ACP North Shivaprakash Nayak, and Gokul police station Inspector Praveen Neelammanavar were transferred to Lokayukta and the police training academy, respectively, while Praveen's posting is not mentioned yet. The department organised a farewell in a meaningful way as a mark of respect for these officers' service in Hubballi-Dharwad.The police jeep was decorated with flowers and garlands, and all 3 officers, along with their family members, were in the jeep. All police staff, from ASIs to ACPs, including the police chief from each police station, turned up at the event and participated enthusiastically.The department usually hosts events termed a ‘Chariot pulling ceremony' or ‘Farewell drag ceremony' to show respect and gratitude to its officers and colleagues on the day of their retirement.
A similar event was organised on the occasion of the transfer of 3 officers to send a message of bonding and express gratitude for their service. Apart from police staff, some elected representatives, members of local organisations, and cty residents were also part of this event.Police staff in uniform pulled the decorated jeep carrying the officers and their family members from the entrance gate of the BVB like a chariot, using a rope. Cheering and raising slogans, police staff pulled the jeep across the whole campus.Police commissioner Shashi Kumar told TOI that all 3 officers worked there for nearly 2-3 years, efficiently helping the department maintain law & order in the city. DCP Nandaganvi played a vital role in controlling the menace of rowdy sheeters and anti-social elements by initiating measures to extern rowdies, control the drug menace, and curb unlawful activities. "We usually organise this kind of ceremony to respect our dedicated officers when they get transferred or retire from the service," he added.DCP Nandaganvi and ACP Nayak said they were overwhelmed by the warm farewell. They said it was a proud moment in their lives. "I am always grateful to the representatives and citizens who supported me in discharging my duties efficiently and establishing peace and tranquillity in the city during my service," said DCP Nandaganvi.A senior officer said this ceremony will also inspire other officers to work honestly and efficiently to gain recognition from both the department and society.
